How to Sponsor Your Siblings to Canada – Sponsorship Visa
How to Sponsor Your Siblings to Canada?
Family Sponsorship Program
The Family Class Sponsorship is available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are 18 years of age or older and want to bring their families to live and work in Canada. Given that the program makes it simple to bring your spouse or sibling to Canada, this is one of the most popular immigration streams in Canada.
Step-by-Step Guide to Canadian Sibling Sponsorship
Please take notice of the processes below as you navigate the Family Sponsorship Program to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
Step 1: Understand How Family Class Sponsorship Functions
To sponsor a family member, you need:
- To be at least 18 years old
- To be listed as a citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- To call Canada home
- To have earned the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for three straight tax years prior to the application date, or more.
- With Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to provide a legitimate undertaking
- Must be able to support your family financially should you decide to settle in Canada.
| Spousal and Family Sponsorship Annual Income Requirement | |
|---|---|
| Number of relatives/siblings | Annual income requirement (minimum) (CAD) |
| One person (the sponsor) | 26,426 |
| Two people | 32,898 |
| Three people | 40,444 |
| Four people | 49,106 |
| Five people | 55,694 |
| Six people | 62,814 |
| Seven people | 69,934 |
| If more than seven people, for each additional person, add | 7,120 |
Processing costs and times
The amount of time it takes to process your application will depend on how well you follow instructions and how properly you fill out the required information on your application. The day your completed application is received will be the day when processing times begin.
Monitoring processing times
Processing times will differ between nations. You must provide information regarding the type of application, the sponsor, and the relative’s residence in order to monitor the processing time. You can watch your processing time and follow the directions from there.
Step 2: Check Your Eligibility to Sponsor a Relative
- Sponsoring your spouse, common-law partner, or dependent child who should not have any other dependent children while residing in Canada
- Preparing to do so so that you can be there when your relative immigrates to Canada
You are ineligible to sponsor a relative or sibling if:
- You've been imprisoned after being found guilty of a violent or sexual offense;
- You owe back child support or have not paid it at all
- You have been deemed insolvent
- When you weren't disabled, you received social aid
- You owe loans or immigration-related obligations in arrears
- You commit any other offense that wasn't mentioned or fail to comply with the sponsorship requirements.
- Please be aware that sponsorship requirements may vary by province. For instance, Quebec can demand that you sign an obligation that binds your sponsorship.
Step 3: Verify Your Relative's Eligibility
- While both parents have died, the sponsor has a sibling who is related to them through blood or adoption.
- The relative must be younger than 18 and unmarried or single.
- If the parents of your brother, sister, niece, nephew, or grandchild are still living or have abandoned them, you are not eligible to sponsor that person.
If your request for family sponsorship is denied, don’t give up hope. You can learn about additional programs that cater to different situations and needs with the correct supervision.
Step 4: Submitting an application
Your siblings have two options for obtaining residency:
- Your siblings can seek permanent residency to live and work in Canada or you can apply to sponsor them.
- Keep in mind that you must submit both your application for permanent residence status and your application for sibling sponsorship at the same time. Your application will then be processed, and you will be notified if it has been approved or not.
