High-Scoring Express Entry Candidates Face Increasing Competition

Canada’s Express Entry system is experiencing greater competition at the top, as there was a notable increase of high-scoring candidates in late July to early August of 2025.
According to the latest Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) report, participants in the 501–600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) band are outperforming the rest of the applicants, making the competition for the Invitation to Apply (ITA) increasingly stiff.

High CRS Scores See the Biggest Growth

The 501-600 CRS band witnessed an increase of 2817 candidates between July 20 to August 5, 2025. This was of the 2817 candidates was only witnessed because the previously mentioned period also witnessed a drop of 329 in the total number of profiles.

Also, the increase in applicants in the top band accompanied a disproportionate drop in the 470-500 band, where 2548 candidates left. This signals that candidates in that range are either improving their profiles or losing the race to new candidates who are better than them.

Current Composition of the Express Entry Pool

As of August 5, 2025, the total Express Entry pool stood at 256,585 candidates. The breakdown is as follows:
CRS Score Range Candidates in Pool
    0–300 8,225
    301–350 20,534
    351–400 53,590
    401–410 13,388
    411–420 14,456
    421–430 14,652
    431–440 16,142
    441–450 15,201
    451–460 15,920
    461–470 17,383
    471–480 16,836
    481–490 12,890
    491–500 12,975
    501–600 24,165
    601–1200 228

    Shifts in the Candidate Pool

The two-week change on either side of the curve, from July 20 to August 5, shows movement in:
CRS Score Range Change in Profiles
    0–300 -106
    301–350 -588
    351–400 -575
    401–410 +73
    411–420 -44
    421–430 +189
    431–440 +135
    441–450 +77
    451–460 +227
    461–470 -14
    471–480 -905
    481–490 -1,051
    491–500 -592
    501–600 +2,817
    601–1200 +28

The 11.6 percent increase in candidates between 501 and 600 points is the most concerning, considering the landscape of future draws.

    Where Does Your Score Stand?

Candidate CRS percentiles indicate where a given score falls in relation to the rest of the population. Suffice to say a score between 501 and 600 remains in the 90.49 and 99.91. On the lower end, those in 351 and 400 place in the 20.89 percent of the population, and place anywhere between the 11th and 32nd percentiles.
This helps candidates understand where their profiles sit in the ITA and CRS competition, and whether their would-be boosted score would stand a shot in drastically improving their chances.

    July 2025 Draw Summary

Date Draw Type ITAs Issued CRS Cut-off
    July 22, 2025 Healthcare & Social Services 4,000 475
    July 21, 2025 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) 202 788
    July 8, 2025 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) 3,000 518
    July 7, 2025 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) 356 750
In total, 7,558 ITAs were issued in July, 153 more than in June, despite a lower number of draws. The biggest increase stemmed from the largest single draw for Healthcare and Social Services for the year, coupled with strong CEC numbers.

    Lower Cut-offs for Key Categories

The CEC and Healthcare draws have both reached new lows for CRS/CRS thresholds, increasing the number of people that can be accommodated in these priority sectors.
Healthcare and Social Services continue to be in focus with IRCC having a draw for the category for the last three months in a row since the February 2025 policy, which announced these occupations as amongst the primary areas of focus for immigration.
