The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) assists Atlantic Canadian employers in bringing in foreign workers for jobs they cannot source domestically. Candidates must meet the following requirements to qualify:
- Have a job offer from a select employer,
- Get provincial approval
- Meet work requirements or educational requirements.
- Successful AIP applicants are also eligible for a two-year work authorization while they are waiting for approval of permanent resident status.
Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP), nevertheless, provides an opportunity for the province to nominate professionals, entrepreneurs, and graduates for PR under the following streams:

- For the NLPNP, candidates residing outside Canada must obtain a unique invite code from a local employer before applying.
- For the AIP, the employer initiates the application and provides the invite code to the candidate, if necessary.
Those already residing in Canada do not require an invite code.
