Yukon Expands More Immigration Pathways with More PR Opportunities in 2025

Yukon has been awarded more nomination spots for 2025, improving opportunities for workers and employers across the territory. The federal government has assigned Yukon an extra 67 spots, for a total of 282 spots available this year. The territory was originally given only 215 spots after province-wide and territory-wide cuts in immigration levels.

The release was made on August 21, 2025, and has been seen as an overdue relief for local businesses that have been struggling to fill critical positions.

New Financial Thresholds by Family Size

The adjustment is a 31.94% increase for individual applicants. For example, one must now have at least $10,507 in available funds, a rise from the previous $7,963. Settlement fund balances fluctuate with family size:

Family Size Required Funds (as of July 29, 2025) Previous Requirement
    1 $10,507 $7,963
    2 $13,080 $9,692
    3 $16,080 $12,069
    4 $19,524 $15,056
    5 $22,143 $17,145
    6 $24,975 $19,015
    7 $27,806 $20,884
    Each additional member $2,831 $1,869

    New Invitations to Apply

With the new quota, Yukon can now issue 80 new Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for August. The places were available after factoring in 2024 rolled-over applications, ITAs that had already been issued, and 13 invitations that were later withdrawn.

This means that more foreign nationals already in Yukon, or those who put territorial interests first, can move further toward permanent residency in the not-too-distant future.

Expression of Interest Sees High Demand

In the early part of this year, Yukon became trendy with its immigration plan when it rolled out an Expression of Interest (EOI) system. Response was tremendous: from March 31 through to April 22, 2025, over 500 applications were submitted by employers eager to sponsor candidates.

Applicants who were under consideration for ITAs in this intake were typically in one of the following priority categories:
Around 400 submissions fit these wished-for categories, testifying to the jurisdiction’s policy of retaining workers already within the local economy.

Information on ITAs Given Out in 2025

Throughout the year, Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) gave out invitations consistently:

Even though it has experienced 13 withdrawals, the program still maintains 80 active invitations to last for several months. Interestingly, 10 nomination places are reserved for medical workers until September 20, 2025, a reflection of Yukon’s commitment to address urgent staffing demands in healthcare.

How the Yukon Nominee Program Works

The YNP enables employers to sponsor labour market shortages and give foreign workers an entry to permanent residence. The applicants must have a full-time, permanent job offer from an eligible employer and meet the selection criteria of the targeted immigration stream they are applying in.

    Pathways are:

While the Yukon Community Pilot Program is closed, the Business Nominee Program is still open and available to accept entrepreneurs to begin businesses in the region.

Upon approval of an application, the employer, government, and nominee sign a Tri-Partite Agreement. The agreement allows the employee to make a federal permanent residence application by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) within a period of six months.

Metro Areas Now Ineligible for Low-Wage LMIA Applications

The following Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) now fall under the exclusion list due to jobless rates exceeding the 6% threshold:
Family Size Minimum Required Funds (Annual)
1 person (student only) CAD $22,895
    2 people CAD $28,502
    3 people CAD $35,040
    4 people CAD $42,543
    5 people CAD $48,252
    6 people CAD $54,420
    7 people CAD $60,589
    Additional family member CAD $6,170

These figures represent a significant increase from the earlier requirement of CAD $20,635 for a single applicant, which had been in effect since January 1, 2024.

    Why This Matters

Widening of the nomination spaces is welcome news to Yukon’s labor market as well as to international candidates. Employers will enjoy increased flexibility in hiring and retaining employees. To international workers, it provides a smoother journey towards gaining permanent residence in Yukon.
With medical professions receiving particular favor and a streamlined system of intake operating, 2025 appears to be a lucky year for those wishing to transition from temporary status to permanent residence in the North of Canada.
