3-Step Process After Receiving ITA under Canada Express Entry

Dear recipient, Congratulations on receiving your Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a Canada PR visa from India!
However, this is just the beginning of your journey…
Now that you have been invited by IRCC, it is imperative to promptly submit a comprehensive application for permanent residency within a specified timeframe, along with a complete set of supporting documents. If candidates diligently follow the “after ITA process,” approximately 80% of electronic Applications for Permanent Residence (eAPR) under Express Entry are processed within six months.

Here's a breakdown of the 3-step process after receiving the ITA:

    STEP 1: Gather Required Documents

After meeting the minimum CRS score for Canada PR and receiving your ITA, the first step is to gather the necessary documents that substantiate the qualifications mentioned in your Express Entry profile. The document list will be provided in your Express Entry Profile. If there are any documents requested by IRCC that you cannot provide, furnish a letter of explanation. Alternatively, attempt to submit alternative documents.
Ensure that all documents required for the Express Entry application are either in English or French. If not, arrange for them to be translated by a certified translator.

    PROOF OF IDENTITY

In some instances, candidates may be asked to provide one or more of the listed documents. For example, if you have been divorced and remarried, you must provide both the divorce certificate and your new marriage certificate.

    LANGUAGE TEST RESULTS

IRCC already possesses access to your language test results, regardless of the test you undertook. However, it’s advisable to submit a copy of your results along with your Canada PR application, even if IRCC hasn’t explicitly requested it. Proactively providing this information can save you time in case IRCC requires it later. Additionally, include the approved language test results of your spouse.

    WORK EXPERIENCE

As part of the application process, you must substantiate your work experience. To demonstrate proof, include:

If you are claiming work experience in Canada, submit:

    EDUCATION

Submit copies of certificates, diplomas, or degrees for post-secondary education, for which you claimed points.
Provide copies of transcripts for both secondary and post-secondary programs. If your education is obtained from a foreign institution, submit an original Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.
For Canadian education, furnish proof of successful program completion.

    PROOF OF FUNDS

Demonstrate to the Canadian authorities that you possess sufficient funds to relocate to the country and support yourself and accompanying family members. As the minimum settlement funds can change annually, refer to the Government of Canada website for the latest information. You can support your claim by attaching official letters from your bank or other financial institutions where your funds are held.

Here are the updated settlement funds requirements effective May 28, 2024:

Number of Family Members Funds Required
    1 $14,690
    2 $18,288
    3 $22,483
    4 $27,297
    5 $30,690
    6 $34,917
    7 $38,875
For each additional family member $3,958

Required Amount as of January 2024

    MEDICAL EXAMINATION CONFIRMATION

Submit electronic copies of the confirmed medical examination to demonstrate good health.

    POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATES

Provide police clearance certificates (PCC) for yourself and all accompanying family members to verify a clean criminal background. Obtain PCCs from every country you and your family have resided in for at least six months or more since the age of 18, if applicable.
Remember, the certificate is valid for only 12 months from the date of issue. It is advisable to wait for your ITA before obtaining a PCC to avoid expiration during application processing.
If obtaining a PCC takes longer, and you’ve already applied for it, submit proof with your application to extend the timeframe until you receive it.

    PHOTOS

Include 2 digital photographs of yourself, your spouse or partner, and each dependent child.

    PROCESSING FEES

It is essential to pay the fees with your application, as follows:

    PROVINCIAL NOMINATION

If you have received a provincial nomination, provide a copy of your Canada PR application.

    PROOF OF RELATIVE

If you have claimed points for a relative living in Canada, submit the following:

    OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT

While not mandatory for Canada PR eligibility, if you have claimed points for a job offer, submit the following:

Step 2: Submit the Canada PR Application

Once you have gathered all the required documents, proceed to complete your electronic Application for Permanent Resident (eAPR). Submit it through IRCC’s web portal, including all supporting documents, and make the necessary payment of a biometric fee – $85 per person.
Upon the completion of your application, IRCC will send you a letter confirming the requirement for biometrics and specifying the location. Every individual aged 14 to 79 must provide biometrics as part of the PR application process, even if they have been submitted before, and remain valid.
If you haven’t paid the biometrics fee yet, do so promptly upon receiving the letter from IRCC. You have 30 days from the date on the letter to undergo the biometrics process.

    Step 3: Application Review

Following the submission of your application, IRCC will commence the review process. Most Express Entry applications are processed within six months, provided the information and documents supplied are accurate and complete.

    In case of rejection:

To remain eligible for future invitation rounds:

    If approved:

Once all your documents are verified, and IRCC approves your application, you will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR).

Wait for IRCC to provide instructions on the subsequent steps before entering Canada.
