Canada Announces Express Entry Invitation Roadmap for 2025

Canada has officially released its Express Entry invitation plan for the rest of 2025 and given immigration prospects more insight into areas of promise. In its latest table, released through an Access to Information request, the government spells out which occupations will receive the most invitations to apply (ITAs) through category-based draws.

    Priority Areas of Focus

While each of the six category-based streams is available—Healthcare, STEM, Trades, Education, Agriculture & Agri-Food, and French-language streams—the numbers make it very clear that education, healthcare, and the trades will receive the lion’s share of invitations this year.

They are all streams that Canada’s biggest labour gaps fall into and thus help Canada satisfy its needs from a socio-economic perspective.

    Allocations for FY 2025

Category Total ITAs for 2025 ITAs Already Issued Remaining Invitations
    Education 3,000 1,000 2,000
    Healthcare 8,000 7,500 500
    Trades 3,300 0 3,300
The figures suggest that teachers and tradesmen will enjoy a flurry of bookings by year-end, and doctors and medical staff—who have had the majority of their slots booked—will hear less from the future.

Efforts by Ottawa at Francophone Immigration

Besides work priority, Canada also confirms that it is concerned about the French-speaking community development outside of Quebec. During the early months of 2025, over 18,500 invitations had resulted from French-language proficiency streams, a move in efforts to achieve the national target of 8.5% Francophone intakes.
Also, a principal event organized on August 8, 2025, produced a further 2,500 invitations, some of which will also be targeted for immigration goals for the year 2026. This renewed emphasis is a demonstration of Canada’s desire to increase bilingualism in the nation.

Cooperation among the Provinces and Territories

To facilitate smoother immigration planning, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is announcing a rolling three-month ITA calendar for provinces and territories. The calendar will outline:
This amendment would allow provincial programs to align their direction towards nominating candidates in line with federal priorities, subsequently optimizing cooperation between different streams of immigration and reaching goals for the period 2025-2027 effectively.

How the Yukon Nominee Program Works

The YNP enables employers to sponsor labour market shortages and give foreign workers an entry to permanent residence. The applicants must have a full-time, permanent job offer from an eligible employer and meet the selection criteria of the targeted immigration stream they are applying in.

    Pathways are:

While the Yukon Community Pilot Program is closed, the Business Nominee Program is still open and available to accept entrepreneurs to begin businesses in the region.

Upon approval of an application, the employer, government, and nominee sign a Tri-Partite Agreement. The agreement allows the employee to make a federal permanent residence application by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) within a period of six months.

Metro Areas Now Ineligible for Low-Wage LMIA Applications

The following Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) now fall under the exclusion list due to jobless rates exceeding the 6% threshold:
Family Size Minimum Required Funds (Annual)
1 person (student only) CAD $22,895
    2 people CAD $28,502
    3 people CAD $35,040
    4 people CAD $42,543
    5 people CAD $48,252
    6 people CAD $54,420
    7 people CAD $60,589
    Additional family member CAD $6,170

These figures represent a significant increase from the earlier requirement of CAD $20,635 for a single applicant, which had been in effect since January 1, 2024.

    What This Means for Applicants

For teachers, tradespeople, and healthcare professionals, the latter half of 2025 is a time of prime opportunity. Thousands of offers are remaining for candidates in these occupations, and candidates should keep their Express Entry profile current and competitive.

French-speaking candidates also gain, since the government retains a large percentage of invitations for the sake of fostering Francophone expansion elsewhere other than in Quebec. With Canada getting set for its 2026 immigration levels plan, the final months of 2025 will have some draws from a vast array of categories, and this is a golden time for skilled workers to be alert and prepared.
