In the latest Express Entry draw of 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) took the initiative to invite 4,300 candidates from various programs.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates were required to attain a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 486
Following the draw on June 8, the recent Express Entry draw held by IRCC marks the second draw of this month. In the previous draw, 4,800 candidates were invited across all programs, and a minimum CRS cut-off score of 486 was also required.

Moreover, there is an update regarding category-based selection. As of May 31, IRCC has expanded the eligibility criteria for Express Entry candidates. They have introduced six new categories, thereby allowing candidates from a total of 82 occupations to be considered for selection. These categories are:
- Healthcare.
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Professions
- Trades, Such as Carpenters, Plumbers, and Contractors
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food
- Strong French-speaking abilities
In the recent draws, Invitations to Apply (ITAs) will be extended to Express Entry candidates who possess the necessary work or language experience in the specified occupations within the newly introduced categories.
Healthcare occupations constitute a significant portion of the eligible occupations for category-based selection, accounting for nearly half of them.

Additionally, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations hold a substantial share as well
To be eligible for an Invitation to Apply (ITA), immigration applicants must be part of the Express Entry pool and possess work experience in any of the occupations listed.
While a high Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score remains crucial, candidates with higher scores have a greater likelihood of receiving an ITA.
According to IRCC, the selection of categories was the outcome of consultations with provinces, territories, and other stakeholders. The results and effectiveness of these draws will be incorporated into the annual report to parliament by IRCC. It’s important to note that categories can undergo changes on a yearly basis.
