BC PNP Unveils Updated Measures to Improve Transparency

British Columbia has introduced a new level of clarity for immigration hopefuls by publishing detailed data on the distribution of scores within its Skills Immigration candidate pool. The update offers thousands of applicants a clearer picture of where they stand in the race for a provincial nomination – a critical step toward Canadian permanent residency.

A Move Towards Transparency from BC PNP

For the first time, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) has shared a breakdown of candidate scores in the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS), allowing applicants to assess how their profiles compare to those in the rest of the provincial pool.
The announcement comes as the province pivots its selection strategy following a significant cut to its nomination allocation earlier in 2025 – moving away from the very targeted draws it has conducted since then towards broader selection rounds inviting candidates with strong economic backgrounds.

A Shift toward Openness in the BC PNP

For the first time, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program has provided a breakdown of candidate scores within its Skills Immigration Registration System. The data will permit applicants to compare the competitiveness of their profiles against the entire provincial pool, something that was not previously possible.
The move comes at a time when British Columbia is restructuring its selection strategy following a significant reduction in its nomination allocation earlier in 2025. The province has moved to conduct broader selection rounds that prioritize candidates on strong economic potential rather than hold narrowly targeted draws.

What the New Candidate Pool Data Shows

As of early November, the BC PNP pool included 10,733 active profiles, each with an assigned SIRS score. It’s a wide distribution, but a cluster of candidates falls between 100 and 109 points, creating the most saturated score band.
Score ranges published by the province indicate how highly weighted this pool is towards mid-range scores; the highest band, 150+, represents a very small share of applicants. Lower ranges, particularly less than 70 points, also form a minor portion of the overall pool.
This detailed score spread provides candidates with a clearer understanding of where in the provincial ranking they stand, as well as how many other applicants share a similar score.

    Understanding Competitiveness through Percentiles

To further increase transparency, British Columbia not only indicates how many candidates scored in a particular range but also publishes percentile rankings. These percentiles help candidates to see what proportion of the pool they are ahead of – or behind – offering insight similar to standardized test scoring systems. For example

How BC Is Selecting Candidates Now

British Columbia’s selection approach has been considerably revised because of the reduced 2025 allocation. Instead of targeting streams – specific occupation groups, for example, or graduate pathways – the program is issuing invitations through larger draws that encompass multiple categories. The province is also experimenting with economic-impact–driven selection, assessing applicants not only by score but by salary and job offer characteristics. A recent example illustrates the change: In the October 2 draw, invitations were issued to candidates who met one of two criteria:

This hybrid approach- mixing score-based with job-offer–based criteria- suggests a more flexible selection pattern for the months to come.

Nomination Spaces See a Boost Ahead of 2026

Despite a difficult start to the year, British Columbia had something to cheer about in October: the federal government doled out 1,254 more nomination spots to the province for 2025, after an early-year reduction sliced the province’s allocation nearly in half. These extra spaces are being used to:

Even more promising, BC’s nomination numbers are set to increase once more in 2026 as Canada ups its overall provincial immigration targets under the most recent Immigration Levels Plan.

The table below shows the break down of registrations by score range that are in the Skills Immigration registration pool as of November 4, 2025:

A total of 94 candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination in this highly selective round. This draw marks a pivotal shift in strategy, aligning with newly introduced limitations on British Columbia’s overall nomination capacity for 2025.

2025 Entrepreneur Immigration invitations Draw List

The Government of British Columbia has officially resumed skilled immigration invitations under the BC PNP, after starting the year with entrepreneur-only draws. On May 8, 2025, the province held its first skilled worker draw, targeting applicants deemed to have the potential for significant economic contribution to the province.

A total of 94 candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination in this highly selective round. This draw marks a pivotal shift in strategy, aligning with newly introduced limitations on British Columbia’s overall nomination capacity for 2025.

How the BC PNP Helps the Province’s Economy

The BC PNP remains a strategic resource for meeting labour demands and boosting economic activity. By focusing on both highly trained workers and entrepreneurs, this program makes competitive internationally.

The drawn candidates tend to fill positions in technology, health care, engineering, administration, and entrepreneurship, completing the economic ecosystem of the province even further.
