The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has already conducted seven invitation rounds under the recently launched selection categories for Express Entry.
Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, emphasized the significance of these changes, stating, “Everywhere I go, I’ve heard loud and clear from employers across the country who are experiencing chronic labor shortages. These changes to the Express Entry system will ensure that they have the skilled workers they need to grow and succeed.”
In addition to addressing labor shortages, Canada’s immigration system is also committed to promoting the growth of the French language in minority communities outside Quebec. By selecting candidates proficient in French, Canada aims to ensure the vitality of French-speaking communities across the nation.
Eligibility for the STEM Occupations Category
- 1. Meet the eligibility requirements of one of the Express Entry streams: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, or Canadian Experience Class.
- 2. Possess a minimum of 6 months of full-time, continuous work experience within the past 3 years in Canada or abroad, in a profession targeted for the STEM Occupations Category.
- 3. Fulfill all the requirements outlined in the instructions for that specific round.
This approach enables the selection of immigrants based on specific attributes aligned with Canada’s economic priorities. The decision to prioritize STEM occupations stems from the recognition that these professions are pivotal for Canada’s growth and innovation. It’s a win-win situation, offering skilled professionals promising opportunities while effectively addressing Canada’s labor shortages.
