Alberta Conducts Seven Draws in September, Inviting Over 1,300 Candidates

Alberta has completed a whirlwind of immigration action this month, issuing more than 1,300 invites across different streams of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The province so far has broken its previous monthly bests of 2025 in nine days by totaling seven draws.

    A September Spike in Invitations

Alberta issued 1,376 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to probable immigrants between September 2 and 10, 2025. The ITAs primarily went to applicants who had substantively qualified Alberta job offers in work occupations that had labour market shortages.

Most of the draws occurred in relation to the Alberta Express Entry Stream and Dedicated Health Care Pathway, which aligns with the province’s further emphasis to meet key occupations in sectors of healthcare, building, aviation, and farming.

    Highest Draw of the Month

Its largest draw occurred on September 4, when Alberta Opportunity Stream issued 891 invites to potential nominees who scored at least 56.
The stream is still Alberta’s leader in terms of popularity, with the highest market share of provincial nomination spots and receiving hundreds of thousands of Expressions of Interest (EOIs).

Prioritized Sectors Under Alberta Express Entry

Earlier in 2025, Alberta signaled that Express Entry Stream invites would focus on priority occupations as much as in its three specialized streams:

Now, construction, farming, aviation, and medicine have been identified as being the major sectors of focused draws.

    Allocation and Nominations in 2025

Alberta’s nomination allocation in 2025 is 4,875, of which 3,749 allocations have so far been issued by September 11. That gives 1,126 allocations left in the year.

This is as far up the nomination trail:

Stream 2025 Allocation Nominations Issued Remaining Nominations EOIs in Pool
    Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sectors 405 348 57 4,619
    Dedicated Health Care Pathways (EE + Non-EE) 500 353 147 1,633
    Alberta Opportunity Stream 2,592 2,016 579 41,848
It also confirmed that there are 1,768 pending in its processing queue.

Express Entry Pathway: A Direct Route for High-Demand Talent

The Alberta Express Entry Stream operates in coordination with the federal Express Entry system. Alberta uses this stream to nominate candidates who are likely to address labour shortages in select sectors.

    In-demand industries currently prioritized include:

Candidates with experience in these fields may be contacted by the province through a Notification of Interest (NOI) if their profiles meet Alberta’s current labour needs.

    This stream also includes:

Each of these sub-pathways responds to specific workforce gaps that Alberta aims to fill in the near future.

    Why This Matters to Applicants

Large numbers of invitations in early September are evidence of Alberta’s urgency in filling its labour gaps. Industries like healthcare, building, and flight continue to struggle with high demand, so such streams remain good options for qualified professionals seeking permanent residence in Alberta.

For candidates in the Express Entry pool as well as candidates who receive job offers in Alberta, this increased activity in draws indicates a good possibility of being chosen before this year’s quota gets exhausted.
