Multiple Pathways Target Priority Occupations
The invitations were distributed across a mix of Express Entry-linked and non-Express Entry pathways, allowing the province to select candidates with diverse profiles. The following streams were included:
- Alberta Express Entry Stream – Accelerated Tech Pathway
- Alberta Express Entry Stream – Priority Sectors (Construction and skilled trades)
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry
- Rural Renewal Stream
This targeted approach highlights Alberta’s effort to balance urban economic growth with rural workforce development.

Sector-Focused Immigration Strategy for 2026
Earlier this year, Alberta announced its intention to prioritize candidates working in high-demand industries such as healthcare, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, and agriculture. The latest draws reinforce this direction, particularly with strong invitation numbers for tech professionals and skilled trades workers.
Rural immigration is also emerging as a key pillar of the province’s strategy. Through the Rural Renewal Stream, Alberta is actively encouraging skilled workers to settle in smaller communities facing labour shortages.
Nomination Quota Status for 2026
For the 2026 calendar year, Alberta has been allocated 6,403 provincial nominations. As of February 5, 2026, the province has issued 405 nominations, leaving 5,964 nomination slots still available. Most nominations granted so far have been issued through the Alberta Opportunity Stream, reinforcing its role as the backbone of Alberta’s provincial immigration framework.
Alberta participates in a federal initiative that allows provinces to nominate practice-ready physicians and francophone applicants under a separate allocation of up to 10,000 spaces nationwide. Nominations issued under this federal measure do not reduce Alberta’s provincial quota.
Outlook for Upcoming Draws
With a large number of nomination spaces still available, Alberta is expected to continue conducting frequent, targeted draws throughout 2026. Candidates with experience in priority sectors, and especially those with job offers in rural areas—are likely to remain strong contenders.
As competition intensifies, applicants are advised to strengthen their profiles and align their experience with Alberta’s evolving economic priorities to improve their chances of receiving a provincial nomination.
