Alberta Holds Five Immigration Draws, Inviting 367 Workers Across Key Sectors
Between August 4 and August 12, 2026, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) selected 367 candidates through five separate invitation rounds. The latest activity demonstrates Alberta’s continued focus on attracting workers whose skills match the province’s labour-market requirements.

Alberta’s Latest AAIP Invitation Rounds
The largest invitation round took place on August 11 under the Rural Renewal Stream, while the Alberta Express Entry Stream also issued invitations to candidates working in agriculture, healthcare and technology.
| Draw Date | AAIP Stream or Pathway | Invitations | Minimum Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 12, 2026 | Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry | 57 | 60 |
| August 11, 2026 | Rural Renewal Stream | 127 | 51 |
| August 7, 2026 | Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sectors: Agriculture | 38 | 55 |
| August 6, 2026 | Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway | 95 | 60 |
| August 4, 2026 | Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sectors: Health Care | 50 | 66 |
Healthcare Remains a Major Priority
Two of the five rounds specifically targeted healthcare candidates. On August 4, Alberta invited 50 candidates through the Alberta Express Entry Stream’s healthcare priority sector, with a minimum score of 66.
A further 57 invitations were issued on August 12 through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway for Express Entry candidates. The minimum score for this selection round was 60.
The August 4 healthcare selection was particularly notable because its minimum score of 66 represented the highest cutoff recorded for this type of healthcare-focused draw in Alberta so far in 2026.
Agriculture and Technology Candidates Also Selected
Alberta’s latest rounds were not limited to healthcare occupations. The province selected 38 candidates on August 7 through an Alberta Express Entry priority-sector draw focused on agriculture. This reflects the province’s continued effort to address workforce requirements outside major urban employment centres.
Technology professionals also remained in demand. Alberta invited 95 candidates through the Accelerated Tech Pathway on August 6, requiring a minimum score of 60. For prospective immigrants, these selections show that Alberta is using targeted immigration measures rather than relying exclusively on broad-based invitations.
Some of the Largest Draws of the Year
Several of the invitation rounds conducted during this period ranked among the biggest held by Alberta in 2026. Large-scale selections were recorded under:
- The Accelerated Tech Pathway
- The Alberta Opportunity Stream
- Agriculture-focused priority sector initiatives
- Manufacturing-focused priority sector initiatives
These larger draws indicate that Alberta continues to rely heavily on immigration to meet employer demand and fill vacancies that remain difficult to address through domestic recruitment alone.
Alberta Has Conducted 69 Draws in 2026
The latest invitation rounds bring Alberta’s total number of provincial immigration draws to 69 for 2026 as of August 12. Across these selections, the AAIP has issued at least 11,215 invitations to candidates seeking provincial nomination this year.
Alberta Receives a Larger Nomination Allocation
Alberta’s immigration capacity has also increased for 2026.
According to figures available as of August 12, Alberta had already used 4,184 nomination spaces. This left 2,419 nominations available for the remaining months of the year.
Nomination Usage by AAIP Stream
| Stream or Pathway | 2026 Allocation | Nominations Issued | Remaining |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alberta Opportunity Stream | 3,562 | 2,268 | 1,294 |
| Rural Renewal Stream | 1,057 | 622 | 435 |
| Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 156 | 134 | 22 |
| Dedicated Health Care Pathways | 518 | 256 | 262 |
| Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway | 619 | 408 | 211 |
| Alberta Express Entry – Law Enforcement Pathway | 12 | <10 | N/A |
| Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sector Draws/Initiatives | 619 | 456 | 163 |
| Entrepreneur Streams | 60 | 33 | 27 |
The Alberta Opportunity Stream has received the largest allocation and has also recorded the highest number of nominations issued so far.
The province has additionally nominated 50 practice-ready physicians and 12 French-speaking candidates using supplementary nomination spaces. These nominations are separate from Alberta’s standard 2026 PNP allocation.
Large Number of Candidates Remain in Alberta’s EOI Pool
As of August 12, the province’s Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) pool contained 36,932 profiles. More than 23,000 of these profiles were submitted through the Alberta Opportunity Stream. This means competition remains significant, particularly in streams where large numbers of candidates are waiting for selection.
| Stream or Pathway | WEOIs in Pool | Applications Awaiting Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Alberta Opportunity Stream | 23,291 | 627 |
| Rural Renewal Stream | 1,728 | 61 |
| Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 3,490 | 15 |
| Dedicated Health Care Pathways | 1,335 | 42 |
| Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway | 2,046 | 211 |
| Alberta Express Entry – Law Enforcement Pathway | 51 | N/A |
| Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sector Draws/Initiatives | 4,991 | 163 |
| Entrepreneur Streams* | N/A | 217 |
*Entrepreneur pathways use a separate selection process and are therefore not included in the worker EOI pool.
More Than 1,300 Nomination Applications Await Decisions
In addition to the candidates waiting in the EOI pool, Alberta had 1,336 nomination applications awaiting a final decision as of August 12. The Alberta Opportunity Stream accounted for 627 of these pending applications. The Accelerated Tech Pathway had 211 applications awaiting processing, while priority-sector pathways had 163.
These figures highlight the difference between receiving an invitation and actually obtaining a provincial nomination. Candidates selected through an AAIP draw must still complete the required application process and satisfy the relevant eligibility and documentation requirements.
Conclusion
Alberta’s August selection activity provides a clear indication of the occupations and workforce areas receiving attention under the AAIP. Healthcare professionals, technology workers and agricultural candidates were among those selected through targeted pathways, while the Rural Renewal Stream continued to provide opportunities for candidates willing to settle and work in participating communities.
Candidates interested in Alberta should therefore assess not only their overall eligibility but also which AAIP pathway best matches their occupation, work experience, job offer, location and other selection factors.
With more than 2,400 nomination spaces still available for 2026 as of August 12, further invitation rounds could provide additional opportunities before the end of the year. However, selection remains dependent on Alberta’s program priorities, available nomination spaces and the characteristics of candidates in the relevant pools.
