The latest update to Canada’s Express Entry program has seen the number of candidates eligible for the country’s top talent immigration streams drop, while the number of candidates eligible for the country’s economic immigration programs has gone up.
This change in eligibility came with the launch of the new All-Program Draw in Express Entry, which replaced the old Express Entry 2 All-Progam Draw. The All-Program Draw was rolled out in all Express Entry programs on December 6.
It is intended to provide a more balanced allocation of candidates among the various Express Entry streams like Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Provincial Nominee Program(PNP). The CCPA found that the allocation of points for the new GSS program has largely captured the top candidates in Express Entry, causing the allocation of points for the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to decrease.
The changes have increased the odds of being allocated CRS-equivalent points in the new Global Talent Stream (GTS), but not the Express Entry-equivalent points in the new Global Skills Strategy (GSS), the report finds.
The Express Entry pool has seen a significant change in the latest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) draw. The new draw, which was held today, saw an increase in the number of invited immigrants under the Independent Traditionally applicant category.
The CRS is used to determine which immigrants are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence in Express Entry. This means that, in some cases, ITAs will be ranked higher than CRS-ranked applicants when they apply for Canadian permanent residence.
The changes to Canada’s immigration system have meant that the country’s visa holders can now apply to immigrate to Canada under the new Global Skills Strategy (GSS). The GSS is an immigration program that targets international workers with high skills in specific occupations.
Candidates who are invited to apply under the GSS will have their applications assessed using the Global Talent Ranking (GTR) system, which was launched in the Express Entry program in August 2018.
The GSS and the GTR are intended to complement each other, rather than replace each other. The CRS is used to determine which candidates are eligible for Express Entry.
