Canada’s Immigration Refugees and Citizenship department (IRCC) extended invitations to candidates once again in the latest Express Entry draw on December 8th.
This time, 5,900 invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued to individuals with professional experience in STEM-related fields, marking the third draw of the week. To be eligible, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 481.
Total ITAs issued: 5,900
Type of draw: STEM occupations (2023-1)
Date and time of round: December 08, 2023 at 03:02:52 UTC
CRS score of lowest-ranked candidate invited: 481
Tie-breaking rule: November 25, 2023 at 09:48:36 UTC
If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.
In yesterday’s draw on December 7th, IRCC targeted 1,000 candidates with a CRS score of 470, emphasizing proficiency in French. The day before, on December 6th, 4,750 candidates with a CRS score of 561 received invitations in an all-program draw.
Notably, this week’s draws marked the first Express Entry draws in over a month. The last draw prior to this occurred on October 26, inviting 3,600 candidates with a CRS score of 431 in a category-based selection draw, focusing on healthcare occupations.
On November 14, IRCC encountered a technical issue where candidates who received ITAs in recent draws couldn’t upload their final application to the Express Entry profile builder. Two days later, a follow-up tweet confirmed the problem’s resolution, though the reason for the extended pause wasn’t disclosed.
The emphasis on STEM-related professions in the recent Express Entry draw reflects Canada’s commitment to attracting skilled individuals with expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These fields play a pivotal role in driving innovation, economic growth, and addressing the evolving challenges of the 21st century.
Candidates with professional experience in STEM-related occupations are in high demand due to their ability to contribute to Canada’s technological advancements, research endeavors, and overall competitiveness in the global market. The inclusion of STEM professionals aligns with Canada’s efforts to build a knowledge-based economy and foster a workforce capable of tackling complex issues in various industries.
STEM-related occupations encompass a broad spectrum, including but not limited to software developers, engineers, data scientists, biotechnologists, and researchers. These professionals bring valuable skills and knowledge that are crucial in shaping Canada’s future in areas such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
By targeting STEM-related occupations in Express Entry draws, Canada aims to address specific skill shortages, promote diversity in its workforce, and position itself as a hub for cutting-edge research and technological innovation. This strategic approach not only benefits the Canadian economy but also provides opportunities for skilled individuals worldwide to contribute to and thrive in a dynamic and forward-thinking work environment.
