Manitoba Conducts Its Biggest Immigration Draw of 2026 So Far

In a significant move to strengthen its workforce and meet growing labour demands, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program carried out its largest immigration selection round of the year on April 23, 2026. This latest invitation round reflects the province’s continued focus on targeted hiring and strategic talent acquisition, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare.

A total of 308 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) were issued under Expression of Interest Draw #269, marking a notable increase compared to earlier draws in 2026 and highlighting Manitoba’s proactive immigration strategy.

    Overview of Draw #269 Results

The invitations were distributed across two primary selection categories, each designed to address specific labour market priorities within the province.
Selection Component Stream/Pathway Basis for Selection LAAs Issued
Occupation-specific Skilled Worker in Manitoba Employment in healthcare occupations (NOC category 3) 192
Strategic recruitment Skilled Worker (Manitoba + Overseas) Direct invitation through targeted recruitment initiatives 116
    Total 308

Out of the total invitations issued, 105 candidates were also part of the federal Express Entry system, having submitted valid profiles along with job seeker validation codes, which further strengthens their pathway toward permanent residency.

Focus on Healthcare Workers in Manitoba

A major portion of the draw targeted individuals already working in Manitoba’s healthcare sector, demonstrating the province’s urgent need to support its medical workforce. A total of 192 candidates received invitations under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream based on their current employment in healthcare roles categorized under NOC group 3.

To qualify under this category, applicants needed to demonstrate active employment within Manitoba in eligible healthcare occupations while meeting all program requirements under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway. It is important to note that candidates applying through the International Education Stream were not included in this selection round. This targeted approach signals Manitoba’s intent to retain experienced professionals who are already contributing to essential services within the province.

Overview of the April 9 Draw

During the Expression of Interest (EOI) Draw #268, Manitoba issued a total of 32 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) to eligible candidates.

A total of 32 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) were issued in this round, marking the province’s first draw for April. Only candidates who had been directly invited by the MPNP through strategic recruitment initiatives were considered in this selection.

    Strategic Recruitment Invitations Expand Significantly

The remaining 116 invitations were issued through Manitoba’s strategic recruitment initiatives, which involve direct selection of candidates aligned with specific economic and community needs. These invitations were extended under both the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas pathways. The distribution of invitations across various recruitment initiatives is outlined below:

When compared to the previous draw held on April 9, 2026, which issued only 32 invitations under the same recruitment category, this round represents a substantial increase. The nearly fourfold rise in invitations under strategic recruitment highlights Manitoba’s intensified efforts to attract diverse talent pools and address regional labour shortages.

Why Some Eligible Candidates May Not Have Received an Invitation

Despite meeting the general eligibility criteria, some candidates may not have received an LAA in this round. According to the MPNP, common reasons for this include inaccuracies or missing information in the Expression of Interest profile.

Applicants may have failed to provide a valid language test identification number or submitted results that were no longer valid at the time of assessment. In other cases, candidates who claimed to have received a strategic recruitment invitation may have entered an incorrect or unverifiable invitation number.

To improve their chances in future draws, candidates are advised to carefully review and update their profiles, ensuring that all submitted information is accurate and up to date. The EOI system also provides detailed guidance for each section to help applicants avoid common errors.

What This Means for Immigration Candidates

This latest draw clearly demonstrates Manitoba’s commitment to selecting candidates who can immediately contribute to the province’s economy, particularly in sectors facing labour shortages. The strong emphasis on healthcare professionals and strategic recruitment initiatives suggests that future draws may continue to follow a targeted approach rather than broad-based selections.

For prospective applicants, maintaining an accurate and complete Expression of Interest profile remains critical, especially for those aiming to secure a provincial nomination and enhance their chances of obtaining permanent residence in Canada.

As Manitoba continues to adjust its immigration strategies in response to workforce needs, candidates aligned with priority occupations and recruitment initiatives are likely to remain at an advantage in upcoming draws.
