Manitoba Opens New Provincial Nomination Opportunity for Targeted Skilled Workers

Manitoba has conducted another provincial immigration selection round, giving skilled workers recruited through specific initiatives a fresh opportunity to pursue Canadian permanent residence.

On August 13, 2026, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) issued 53 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) through its two Skilled Worker pathways. The latest round was narrowly focused on candidates who had received invitations through Manitoba’s strategic recruitment initiatives. With this selection, Manitoba’s number of MPNP draws conducted in 2026 has reached 16.

53 Candidates Selected in Manitoba’s Latest Draw

Unlike a broad invitation round, the August 13 selection concentrated on applicants connected with designated recruitment programs. These initiatives are designed to help Manitoba identify workers whose skills, backgrounds, language abilities or community connections align with provincial priorities. The 53 invitations were distributed among several strategic categories:

    Strategic Initiative Invitations Issued
    Employer Services 15
    Francophone Community 13
    Ethnocultural Communities 12
    Regional Communities 9
    Temporary Public Policy 4
    Total 53

Employer Services accounted for the largest portion of the selection, with 15 invitations. Francophone applicants followed with 13, while 12 invitations went to candidates connected with ethnocultural community initiatives. The province also selected nine candidates through regional community initiatives and four individuals associated with the former temporary public policy concerning work permits for prospective provincial nominees.

Who Was Eligible for This Selection?

Candidates needed to have an appropriate strategic recruitment connection recorded in their Expression of Interest (EOI) profile. This included individuals who had been selected through an MPNP recruitment mission or who qualified under the former temporary public policy that supported prospective provincial nominees with work permit options.

Simply having a skilled occupation or meeting the general requirements of Manitoba’s Skilled Worker Stream was therefore not enough for this particular selection. The applicant’s EOI profile also needed to contain the relevant information demonstrating eligibility under the targeted initiative.

Express Entry Candidates Also Received Invitations

Manitoba also continued to connect its provincial nomination process with Canada’s federal Express Entry system. Out of the 53 LAAs issued during the latest round, six went to applicants who had an active Express Entry profile number and a valid job seeker validation code.

A provincial nomination can be particularly valuable for an eligible Express Entry candidate because an enhanced provincial nomination can provide a substantial CRS advantage and potentially improve the applicant’s prospects of receiving an invitation for permanent residence from the federal pool.

Manitoba Has Now Issued 4,875 Skilled Worker Invitations in 2026

The latest selection brings the total number of LAAs issued through Manitoba’s Skilled Worker Stream to 4,875 as of August 13, 2026.

The figure highlights the continuing role of the Skilled Worker Stream within Manitoba’s broader immigration strategy. Rather than relying solely on general selection criteria, the province has increasingly used targeted initiatives to identify candidates who can contribute to specific labour-market and community priorities.

Why Some Eligible Candidates Were Not Selected

Meeting the apparent requirements of a draw does not necessarily guarantee an invitation. The MPNP identified documentation and profile-related issues that could prevent an otherwise eligible candidate from receiving an LAA. One possible issue involves language-test information. Candidates who entered an approved English or French test into their EOI profile needed to provide a valid test identification number. Their language results also had to remain valid.

Another potential problem involved strategic recruitment details. Candidates claiming eligibility through one of Manitoba’s targeted initiatives needed to enter a valid invitation number in their EOI profile. Errors or missing information in either area could therefore affect selection.

Selected Occupations Include Aviation and Healthcare Professionals

Alongside the large manufacturing and utilities selection, Manitoba also invited candidates working in a specific group of occupations considered eligible under its qualifying occupation category.
A total of 74 invitations were issued to candidates who identified themselves as currently employed in one of seven targeted occupations.

    These included:

The selection of these occupations reflects demand across several important areas, including aviation, engineering, healthcare, technical services and facility management.

Manitoba’s 2026 Nomination Activity So Far

The province’s latest available monthly statistics provide a broader picture of how the MPNP has been processing applications during the first half of 2026. From January through June, Manitoba recorded 1,883 EOIs drawn from its Skilled Worker pool.

    The monthly figures were:

    Month EOIs Drawn
    January 102
    February 101
    March 60
    April 340
    May 1,002
    June 228
    Total 1,883

May was particularly active, with 1,002 EOIs selected during the month.

Manitoba Has 6,239 Nomination Spaces for 2026

For 2026, Manitoba has been allocated 6,239 provincial nomination spaces by the federal government.

Between January and June, the province issued 2,670 nominations.

    Month Nominations Issued
    January 484
    February 425
    March 389
    April 445
    May 422
    June 505
    Total 2,670

Of these nominations, 886 were enhanced nominations, meaning they were connected to the federal Express Entry system.

The monthly distribution of enhanced nominations was:

    Month Enhanced Nominations
    January 154
    February 146
    March 129
    April 143
    May 128
    June 186
    Total 886

    Application Intake Remained Active

The MPNP also received a significant number of nomination applications during the first six months of the year. A total of 1,885 applications were received between January and June.

May and June recorded the highest intake during this period, with 554 and 589 applications respectively.

    Month Applications Received
    January 292
    February 237
    March 104
    April 109
    May 554
    June 589
    Total 1,885

The figures indicate that demand for Manitoba’s provincial nomination pathways remained substantial during the first half of 2026.

More Than 11,000 Applications Were Under Assessment

Manitoba’s processing figures also show a considerable volume of applications still moving through the assessment system.

Between January and June, the province reported 11,890 applications pending or under assessment.
    Month Applications in Assessment
    January 2,605
    February 2,355
    March 2,030
    April 1,575
    May 1,634
    June 1,691
    Total of Monthly Figures 11,890

The term “in assessment” refers to applications that have been assigned to a provincial officer but have not yet received a final decision.

    Refused Applications Also Tracked

The MPNP reported 371 applications refused during the January-to-June reporting period. The monthly numbers were 95 in January, 38 in February, 35 in March, 95 in April, 55 in May and 53 in June.

These figures represent applications from LAA recipients that ultimately did not lead to a provincial nomination.

    Refused Nomination Applications

Not every application submitted after receiving an invitation ultimately results in a nomination.
Month Applications Under Assessment or Pending
    January 95
    February 38
    March 35
    April 95
    May 55
    Total 318
Applications may be refused if candidates fail to meet program requirements or submit incomplete or inaccurate documentation.

    Conclusion

The August 13 selection demonstrates that Manitoba continues to use targeted immigration measures to identify candidates connected with employers, communities, language groups and regional recruitment efforts.

For prospective applicants, this means monitoring the province’s selection priorities can be just as important as meeting the basic requirements of a Skilled Worker pathway.

Candidates should also keep their EOI information accurate and current, particularly details concerning language testing, recruitment invitations and Express Entry credentials. Incorrect or incomplete information can affect eligibility even when a candidate otherwise appears to meet the criteria of a selection round.

Manitoba’s continued use of strategic recruitment also underlines the importance of understanding which provincial pathway best matches an applicant’s profile before submitting an immigration application.
