Alberta PNP Draw: 158 Invitations Issued in Latest AINP Round

Alberta Issues 158 Invitations in Latest PNP Draws to Strengthen Key Labour Markets
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has once again ramped up efforts to attract international talent by conducting two targeted immigration draws earlier this month. Held on May 13 and May 15, the draws resulted in a combined total of 158 invitations to candidates seeking permanent residency through provincial nomination.
These latest rounds focus on critical workforce gaps in Alberta’s economy, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sector and the more expansive Alberta Opportunity Stream.
Sector-Focused Immigration: Alberta’s Strategic Dual Draw
Alberta’s May 2025 immigration activity highlights the province’s deliberate strategy of tailoring draws to meet sector-specific and province-wide labour demands.
Here’s a breakdown of the two draws:
Date | Immigration Pathway | Invitations Issued | Minimum Selection Score |
---|---|---|---|
May 13, 2025 | Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) | 125 | 76 |
May 15, 2025 | Tourism and Hospitality Pathway | 33 | 72 |
Tourism and Hospitality Stream: A Targeted Approach to Workforce Recovery
To qualify, applicants must:
This stream is designed for health care professionals who already have an active Express Entry profile. The April 1 draw saw 34 invitations sent out to candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 60.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Have worked at least six months for an Alberta-based employer in the hospitality or tourism field
- Possess a valid full-time job offer from a designated Alberta employer
- Satisfy required benchmarks for language and education.
2. Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sectors
Conducted on April 4, this stream is a subset of the Alberta Express Entry program. It prioritizes key economic sectors, including health care. A total of 19 candidates were selected, each with a minimum CRS score of 71.
To be eligible, applicants must meet Express Entry criteria, have a job offer in Alberta’s health care sector, and list an eligible occupation in their Express Entry profile.
3. Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Non-Express Entry
On April 8, Alberta extended invitations to 28 health professionals through its non-Express Entry stream. This base PNP pathway is ideal for those who don’t qualify for Express Entry but meet provincial labor needs. The cut-off selection score was 53.
Eligibility requirements include:
- A valid job offer in Alberta from a health care employer
- Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 5 in all language abilities
- Proof of licensure or eligibility to practice in Alberta
- A valid work permit or maintained status if already working in Alberta.
Alberta Opportunity Stream: Continuing to Attract Provincial Talent
The AOS draw welcomed 125 candidates who met the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)-based selection score of 76.
Provincial Nomination Status and Pool Activity
As of May 2025, Alberta has been allotted 4,875 provincial nomination spaces for the year. Out of these, 2,077 nominations have already been issued. The remainder provides opportunities for thousands more qualified candidates.
Here is a snapshot of the current status of two active streams:
Stream | 2025 Quota | Spots Remaining | EOIs in Pool |
---|---|---|---|
Tourism & Hospitality | 245 | 122 | 5,755 |
Alberta Opportunity | 2,592 | 1,376 | 37,934 |
