The Canadian Express Entry stream was launched in 2015 and since then, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada have held 38 PNP-only draws. It has never invited more than a thousand invitations, except for the draw held on June 23 and the recent draw.
The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada have only held PNP draws since September 2021, and has made the recent draw as the seventh one in this stream. IRCC had invited 613 candidates with a minimum score of at least 737 points in the last Express Entry draw.
In 2021, IRCC prioritized only Express Entry draws, targeting candidates from the PNP and CEC streams.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the IRCC had planned on offering PRs to the immigrants who were already in the country, due to the travel restrictions across borders.
The backlog for Express Entry-linked programs was nearly 138,000, as of October 27. PNP processing alone had a queue of nearly 38,000, whereas the CEC was up to about 48,000.
The IRCC data from the month of September and October showed that it has been processing an approximate amount of about 1,700 PNP applications per month.
The onset of Covid-19 couldn’t stop Canada from conducting 34 PNP-specific Express Entry draws, inviting 18,817 candidates for permanent residence, while 27 CEC draws were held inviting 133,868 invitations.
What is Express Entry?
The Canadian Express Entry is the most popular and fast-tracked immigration program of the country which is also an application management system for the three federal economic programs:
This program ranks the candidates based on points, which is also called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The points are allocated based on different factors such as age, educational credentials, work experience, a job offer in Canada, language test results, etc. The candidates with the highest scores in the pool are nominated for permanent residency.
Candidates can select from one of the two processes, where they can either opt for a direct express entry stream or go for a PNP-aligned express entry stream. The latter adds an additional 600 points to their CRS score, increasing their chances of receiving the ITA in the subsequent express entry draw.
