Ontario invited 1406 Express Entry Candidates with Tech Background for Provincial Nomination
Ontario held the biggest PNP draw on October 27, where it invited 1,406 Express Entry candidates with a tech background.
The candidates invited were the ones who were eligible for Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream and had an express Entry along with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 455 and 467. To top it up, the candidates were also required to have at least one year of working experience in one of the occupations in demand:
- Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)
- Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
- Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
- Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
- Computer programmer and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
- Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
According to the OINP, if the candidate is unable to show their work experience in any one of the above occupations, their profile will be rejected.
Along with that, the candidates with foreign educational backgrounds also have to show the Educational Credential Assessment score to prove that their level of education is parallel to the Canadian Education system.
Invited candidates now have a total of 45 days to apply to the Ontario Provincial Nomination Program (OINP).
The PNP invited candidates would receive an automatic 600 points to their CRS score because of their PNP nomination. This spike in the CRS score can effectively boost their chances of receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a subsequent round of invitations. This is applicable to any candidate who goes for a PNP aligned-Express Entry stream.
This being the second tech draw of Ontario, it invited 1100 candidates in its first tech draw to apply for the provincial nominations.
Human Capital Priorities Stream leads to permanent residence
The very first step of immigrating to Canada is creating an Express Entry profile.
The Express Entry Stream is the most famous and fast-tracked immigration program of Canada, which has a procedure period of 6-8 months. It is used to meet the labor market demand of the country through three federal high-skilled immigration programs:
Candidates in the Express Entry Pool are ranked by their CRS score and the ones with the highest scores are invited through the regular Express Entry draws to apply for permanent residence. The candidates can apply for a direct Express Entry stream by skipping the PNPs. But holding a PNP nomination can add up extra 600 points to the CRS score, hence increasing the chances of getting an ITA for Permanent Residency in a subsequent express entry draw.
Ontario uses the OINP to invite eligible candidates for the Human Capital Priorities Stream, from the Express Entry pool to apply for a provincial nomination.
