IRCC held an all-program Express Entry draw on August 1st, inviting 2,000 candidates from all three programs encompassed within the Express Entry system (the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Candidates with a minimum CRS was 517 were invited.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry serves as an immigration application management system designed to oversee the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). These three programs collectively represent among the most sought-after avenues for economic immigration into Canada.
Applicants undergo an evaluation based on key human capital aspects, encompassing work history, professional domains, linguistic abilities, education, and age. A Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) is assigned to each candidate, reflecting these criteria and establishing their ranking. Individuals with the highest CRS scores subsequent to a draw’s specified cutoff date stand a greater chance of receiving Invitations to Apply (ITAs).
In a recent development on May 31st, the IRCC unveiled a fresh set of selection criteria, placing increased emphasis on specific professional and demographic attributes of candidates, rather than solely focusing on their CRS scores. This innovation has led to the introduction of six new categories for Express Entry candidates:
- Healthcare
- STEM professions (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
- Trades
- Transport
- Agriculture and Agri-food
- French-language proficiency
These distinct categories are aimed at promptly addressing critical job vacancies within the Canadian workforce and fostering the broader use of the French language beyond the province of Quebec.
