    IRCC Invites 2,500 Candidates in Latest Express Entry Draw Focused on French Proficiency

    In the latest Express Entry draw conducted by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), candidates have been invited to apply for permanent residence on 29th February 2024.
    This marks the week’s second draw, with the department issuing 2,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) in a category-based selection draw tailored for candidates showcasing strong proficiency in the French language. A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 336 was required for eligibility in this specific draw.
    In the draw held on February 28, 1,410 candidates were invited to apply, meeting a minimum CRS threshold of 534. This general draw encompassed candidates from all three Express Entry-managed programs. The results of this week’s draws contribute to the culmination of a bustling February, with a total of 13,610 candidates receiving ITAs across five draws. Among these, two were general draws, and three were category-based selection draws targeting candidates with notable proficiency in French, as well as those in healthcare occupations and agriculture/agri-food occupations.

    In addition to these draws, it is noteworthy to highlight the significance of the French Speaking Proficiency round of the Express Entry draw, which took place on February 1st.
    During this draw, 7,000 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 365 were invited to apply, emphasizing the importance of linguistic diversity in the Canadian immigration system. This concerted effort reflects the nation’s commitment to attracting individuals with a strong command of the French language, contributing to the cultural and linguistic mosaic of Canada.

    What is the projected number of ITAs through Express Entry this year?

    As per the Immigration Levels Plan outlined by IRCC, the department aims to admit 110,770 new Permanent Residents (PRs) in 2024 via Express Entry. This marks a notable surge from the previous year, where the government aimed for 82,880 newcomers to acquire Canadian PR through the same system. The numbers are expected to stabilize at 117,500 in both 2025 and 2026.
    Commencing in 2025, Canada’s allotment for new permanent residents through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) will see an increase to 120,000. This designates provincial pathways collectively as Canada’s primary avenue for welcoming new economic immigrants.
