General Express Entry Draw on April 10

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) commenced the month’s first Express Entry draw on April 10th, extending invitations to candidates.
In this round, 1,280 invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued in a general draw, with candidates necessitating a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 549 to qualify. The CRS cutoff is at all-time high for Canada’s Express Entry draws.

Details of the draw: April 10, 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.
This event marks the initial draw for April, following a sequence of four draws held throughout March.
During March, general draws took place on the 12th and 25th. The March 12th draw saw 2,850 candidates receiving ITAs with a minimum CRS score of 525. Subsequently, on March 25th, 1,980 candidates were invited with a score of 524.
In addition to the general draws, two category-specific selection draws occurred. On March 13th, IRCC invited 975 candidates in transport occupations with a minimum CRS score of 430.

Wrapping up the month, the draw on March 26th extended invitations to 1,500 candidates eligible under the French language proficiency category. These candidates required a minimum CRS score of 388, which stands as the highest minimum score for this category in 2024 thus far. Notably, two other French proficiency draws earlier in the year had minimum CRS scores of 336 and 365.

    What exactly is Express Entry?

Category-based selection draws were introduced in May 2023 to help IRCC pinpoint Express Entry candidates possessing sought-after skills or human capital attributes.
The department rolled out six categories in 2023 and confirmed earlier this year that these same categories will persist throughout 2024. They encompass:
Candidates must already have an application in the Express Entry pool to be eligible for consideration in category-based selection.

More about Canada’s Express Entry Program

Express Entry serves as an application management system for Canada’s top three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
Through these programs, applicants undergo assessments based on various human capital factors such as their work history, occupation, language proficiency, age, and education.
Each factor receives a score, which is then aggregated to produce a final Comprehensive Ranking System score. Candidates with the highest scores stand the best chance of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent resident status.
A significant advantage of Express Entry, as its name suggests, is the expedited processing of candidates’ PR applications compared to other economic immigration programs. IRCC aims to process 80% of all Express Entry applications within six months, as per its published service standard. More complex cases within the remaining 20% may take longer to process.
