Latest Express Entry Draw: 920 ITAs Issued

In Canada’s latest Express Entry draw on July 2, 2024, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued invitations to apply (ITAs).

This draw, specifically under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), saw a total of 920 candidates receiving ITAs. To qualify, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739.
This draw follows several program-specific draws held in the past month. Recently, on June 19, IRCC invited 1,499 candidates in another PNP-specific draw, with a minimum CRS score requirement of 663. Another notable draw took place on May 30, inviting 2,985 Express Entry candidates solely through the PNP pathway, marking the first such draw since May 10, 2023. Additionally, on May 31, 3,000 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) were invited.
Program-specific draws focus exclusively on candidates in the Express Entry pool who have applied through programs like CEC, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), or Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). For PNP-only draws, candidates are considered if they have been nominated through an Express Entry-aligned stream of a Provincial Nominee Program, known as an enhanced nomination.
These draws are part of IRCC’s efforts since January to manage the levels of temporary residents in Canada, offering more pathways for them to obtain permanent residence (PR). Many temporary residents, including those on work or study permits, or visitor visas, seek PR through CEC or PNP, contributing to IRCC’s annual targets for “Federal High Skilled Workers” (Express Entry) as outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan while reducing the number of temporary residents in the country.

Details of the draw: July 2, 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

    What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a system introduced by IRCC in 2015 to streamline the application process for skilled immigrants. It targets candidates with sought-after skills and manages applications for programs like FSWP, FSTP, and CEC.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) used in Express Entry evaluates candidates based on factors like age, work experience, language proficiency, and education. Each factor is assigned a score, and the total CRS score determines a candidate’s eligibility for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in future draws. Higher CRS scores increase the likelihood of receiving an ITA.

What is Express Entry’s Category-Based Selection?

Express Entry draws come in various types: program-specific draws, category-based selection draws, and general draws. General draws consider all candidates in the Express Entry pool without focusing on specific programs or occupations.

These draws are not limited to specific programs and tend to feature lower CRS score requirements compared to general draws.

    What is Express Entry?

Express Entry serves as a platform managing three of Canada’s leading economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
While each program has distinct eligibility criteria, they all undergo assessment using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).red.
Through CRS, candidates receive scores based on various human capital factors, including work experience, occupation, language proficiency, age, education, and whether they are immigrating with a spouse or partner.
Scores are tallied to determine candidates’ final CRS score. Higher scores increase the likelihood of receiving an ITA in subsequent Express Entry draws.
In May 2023, IRCC introduced category-based selection draws for Express Entry candidates with specific work experience or language skills. These categories include healthcare occupations, STEM professions, trades occupations, transport occupations, agriculture and agri-food occupations, and strong French proficiency. These categories are expected to remain unchanged in 2024, but adjustments may occur in 2025.
