IRCC invites 5,000 Canadian Experience Class candidates

On July 31, 2024, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its ninth Express Entry draw of the month, extending 5,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) exclusively to candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

To be eligible for this draw, candidates needed to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 510. This latest draw is part of a busy month for Express Entry, with IRCC issuing a total of 25,125 ITAs throughout July.

Details of the draw: July 31, 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.
July’s Express Entry draws have seen a mix of program-specific and category-based selections. Program-specific draws have included substantial invitations for CEC and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, reflecting a strategic emphasis on those already residing in Canada. This approach aligns with IRCC’s plan to manage the number of temporary residents while meeting permanent residency goals, as outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan.
Category-based draws this month have also been notable, particularly for candidates with French language proficiency, who received a total of 5,000 ITAs over two separate draws. Additionally, healthcare professionals were awarded 3,750 ITAs on July 5, and 1,800 ITAs were issued to trade occupation candidates on July 4.

Since the resumption of program-specific draws on May 30 after a year-long hiatus, IRCC has invited 11,300 CEC candidates and 3,275 PNP candidates. This shift underscores the department’s focus on integrating individuals who are already part of Canada’s temporary workforce into the permanent resident pathway.

    What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a system used to manage applications for three key Canadian immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
These programs represent some of Canada’s most significant economic immigration pathways. They all employ the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess candidates based on factors such as age, education, occupation, language proficiency, and work experience.
Each of these factors is assigned a score, and the aggregate of these scores determines a candidate’s overall CRS score. This system helps identify candidates who are likely to make valuable contributions to Canada’s workforce and enhance its demographic profile. Candidates with higher CRS scores have a greater chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
The primary goal of Express Entry is to streamline the immigration process for highly skilled individuals. The system is designed to expedite processing times, with the department setting a target of six months for processing Express Entry applications.
