IRCC invites 3,200 Canadian Experience Class candidates

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced its second Express Entry draw of August 2024, issuing 3,200 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) category. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cutoff for this draw was set at 509 points.
This draw, which took place on August 14, follows closely on the heels of another Express Entry draw held on August 13. In that earlier draw, IRCC issued 763 ITAs to candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) category, with a notably higher CRS cutoff of 690 points.

Details of the draw: August 14, 2024

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.
The recent surge in Express Entry activity mirrors the trends seen in July, a month that set records with over 25,000 ITAs distributed across nine distinct draws. July was the most active month for Express Entry draws since the system’s inception in 2015, marking a significant rebound from June, which saw only a single draw.
July’s draws were diverse, with four dedicated to specific categories. Two of these targeted candidates with French language proficiency, and the July 18 draw for French speakers had the lowest CRS score of the month at 400. The other two category-based draws focused on candidates in healthcare and trade professions.
Of the nine draws in July, two were aimed at the Canadian Experience Class candidates, while three targeted Provincial Nominee Program candidates. The highest CRS score recorded for PNP candidates was 739 on July 2.
The increase in program-specific draws this month underscores IRCC’s strategic shift towards more targeted selection processes. This change follows a period of exclusively general and category-based draws over the past year, reflecting a broader strategy to focus more on domestic candidates and reduce the number of temporary residents.
The shift is aligned with IRCC’s ongoing efforts to meet its permanent resident admission targets and manage immigration levels effectively. As the immigration landscape continues to evolve, the IRCC remains committed to adapting its strategies to address Canada’s changing needs and priorities.

    What is Express Entry?

Express Entry, introduced by IRCC in 2015, is a points-based system designed to streamline the selection process for economic immigration candidates. It evaluates applicants using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which scores candidates based on factors such as age, occupation, education, language ability, and work experience. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency.
