Canada Holds the Newest Express Entry Draw For Skilled Workers Within the CEC

The immigration department of Canada, IRCC, has issued a new round of Express Entry invites focused on CEC (Canadian Experience Class) candidates, which targets individuals already residing in Canada and who have skilled work experience in the country.

This marks the latest effort by the federal government to align immigration with provincial labour market requirements across all the Canadian provinces.

    Results: Rounds of invitations

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Invitations to apply to the Canadian Experience Class may be issued through this round of invitations.

Main Highlights of the August 7 Selection Round

The most recent draw has seen the issuance of 1,000 invites to apply (ITAs) to qualifying CEC candidates. The applicants were required to meet the minimum CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score of 534 and have submitted Express Entry profiles before August 2, 2025, 6:22 UTC. This profile was generated well in time to allow for a margin and avoid last-minute hitches, which could otherwise be very expensive.
This was the second draw of August month which came right after the August 6 PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) round, which invited 225 candidates scoring 739 and above.

    2025 Trends For Express Entry

2025 has seen IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) adopting a more program or category-based approach to the selection of applicants, which seems to strategically try to address the economic demands of the country.

The department has issued 50,628 ITAs since the beginning of the year, with the highest number going to PNP, then CEC participants, French-speaking candidates, as well as those in the targeted list of professions, including healthcare, social work, and teaching.

Recent Draw Activity: A Quick Recap

In the month of August alone, four draws have taken place:

The draws are designed in such a way that they alternate with each other and give the right importance to the right professions at the time of demand of the country, within every few weeks.

    Strategic Insights for Aspiring Immigrants

For candidates hoping to secure Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry, the current pattern underscores the value of:
Additionally, applicants in healthcare, education, or social services may find themselves prioritized under future category-based rounds.

What are Express Entry’s Category-Based Selections

IRCC has introduced category-based selections in 2023 and expanded in 2025, which helps it to categorically meet the specific job industry demands of the provinces and territories. This focuses on fields like education, healthcare, and French-language proficiency. Canada aims to welcome skilled immigrants better suited to the nation’s demographic and economic goals, to help fill the gaps in the in-demand job roles of the country.

    Significance of CEC-Centric Invitations

The Canadian Experience Class, CEC, issued invites to eligible applicants, like international students, and skilled temporary workers already employed in Canada. This specialization supports Canada’s retention strategy in maintaining the population’s proven skilled and economic contributors.

The incentive also simplifies the progression from temporary to permanent residency, and this, in turn, helps in the retention of skilled workers in Canada.

    What to Expect in 2025

Observers of immigration trends anticipate that the IRCC will continue its balance of CNP, CEC, and other category-based rounds for the remainder of the year, given the nearly eight months of completed draws. It is in the candidate’s best interest to keep their profiles current, with CRS scores.
