IRCC Issues First Express Entry Draw of August under PNP Category

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, or IRCC, has finally held its first Express Entry draw of the month on August 6th, 2025.

This recent Express Entry draw issued a total of 225 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for Canadian Permanent Residency. The draw targeted the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates.

This marks the latest effort by the federal government to align immigration with provincial labour market requirements across all the Canadian provinces.

    Results: Rounds of invitations

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Invitations to apply to the Provincial Nominee Program may be issued through this round of invitations.

Latest Draw Targets High-Scoring PNP Candidates

The August 6th Express Entry draw targeted only the candidates nominated by the Canadian provinces or territories, where the candidates needed to have a minimum CRS score of 739 to be eligible for the selection process. Also, the candidates were supposed to have submitted their Express Entry profiles in the portals before 6:35 a.m. UTC on April 23, 2025

The CRS cutoff scores for the PNP applicants often go higher as they receive an extra 600 points through their provincial nominations. This increases their chances of the selected if picked by the provinces.

Canada’s Express Entry program has witnessed a total of 49,628 ITAs being issued to candidates for PR since the beginning of 2025.

    Strategic Insights for Aspiring Immigrants

For candidates hoping to secure Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry, the current pattern underscores the value of:
Additionally, applicants in healthcare, education, or social services may find themselves prioritized under future category-based rounds.

What are Express Entry’s Category-Based Selections

IRCC has introduced category-based selections in 2023 and expanded in 2025, which helps it to categorically meet the specific job industry demands of the provinces and territories. This focuses on fields like education, healthcare, and French-language proficiency. Canada aims to welcome skilled immigrants better suited to the nation’s demographic and economic goals, to help fill the gaps in the in-demand job roles of the country.

    What This Means for Applicants

If a candidate is planning to move to Canada under the Express Entry categories, it is quite important for them to keep up with the evolving eligibility requirements and new draw patterns of the IRCC.

The higher the CRS score, the better the chances of receiving invitations for PR. PNP nominations provide extra points to the candidates’ CRS score, while category-based draws can be helpful for applicants who hold prior work experience in in-demand occupations or are proficient in French.

    Looking Ahead

As the country keeps on refining its immigration strategies and policies to better match the market demands of its provinces, more draws targeting specific skill sets, languages, and job industries are on the way. IRCC’s rapidly changing approach targets to ensure long-term success for all immigrants and communities across the country.
