Canada Starts August with 507 Invitations in New Express Entry PNP Draw

Canada has held its first Express Entry draw of August, inviting candidates who have received a provincial nomination to apply for permanent residence. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted the latest selection round on August 4, issuing 507 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

The latest draw reinforces Canada’s continued reliance on provincial immigration pathways to fill regional labour shortages and support economic growth across the country.

    Results: Rounds of invitations

If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Invitations to Apply for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades Program may be issued through this round of invitations.

Total Express Entry ITAs for 2026

With this latest draw, IRCC has now issued 105,123 ITAs through Express Entry in 2026. The distribution of invitations clearly reflects the department’s priority streams.

The high volume of Canadian Experience Class invitations indicates a growing emphasis on bilingual talent as Canada works to meet its long-term Francophone immigration targets.

    Category-Based Draws Conducted in 2026

Express Entry rounds this year have been limited to specific streams rather than broad, multi-program draws.

The draws are now divided as follows:

Provincial Nominee Program draws have been the most frequent in 2026, reflecting the federal government’s collaboration with provinces to address localized workforce shortages.

Eligible Occupations Under the New Category

The senior manager category was introduced as part of immigration policy adjustments announced in February 2026, which added several new occupational groups to category-based selection. To qualify, applicants must have at least one year of Canadian work experience within the last three years in one of the following leadership roles listed under the National Occupation Classification (NOC):

These occupations represent executive-level roles that play a key part in managing major industries and organisations across Canada.

Why Provincial Nominee Draws Continue to Matter

Provincial Nominee Program draws remain a key component of Canada’s economic immigration system. Through these selection rounds, provinces and territories can nominate skilled workers whose qualifications match local workforce needs and regional economic priorities.

A provincial nomination also provides a significant boost to an applicant’s Comprehensive Ranking System score, making it one of the strongest pathways to receiving an Invitation to Apply through Express Entry.

    Recent Express Entry Trends

Recent Express Entry activity shows IRCC rotating invitations across multiple categories rather than relying on a single stream. Since the beginning of the year, the department has regularly conducted draws for:

This targeted invitation strategy allows Canada to respond more effectively to labour shortages while supporting long-term immigration objectives.

    What This Means for Candidates

The first Express Entry draw of August demonstrates that provincial nominees continue to receive regular opportunities for permanent residence. Candidates who obtain a provincial nomination remain well-positioned to receive an Invitation to Apply because of the substantial CRS points awarded through the program.

Those planning to improve their chances in future Express Entry draws should consider strengthening their CRS score, maintaining an active and up-to-date Express Entry profile, exploring provincial nomination opportunities, and monitoring upcoming category-based invitation rounds that align with their skills and work experience.
