Canada Invites 2,000 Candidates in Latest Canadian Experience Class Express Entry Draw
Canada has conducted another Express Entry invitation round, this time selecting skilled workers with Canadian experience for permanent residence. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the latest draw on September 1, issuing 2,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
The latest selection required candidates to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 521. Applicants also needed to have created their Express Entry profile before 3:24 a.m. UTC on August 18, 2026, in accordance with the tie-breaking rule used for the draw. This latest round adds to a strong year of targeted Express Entry selections, with CEC candidates continuing to represent one of the largest groups receiving invitations in 2026.

With this latest draw, IRCC has now issued 122,427 ITAs through Express Entry in 2026. The distribution of invitations clearly reflects the department’s priority streams.
The high volume of Canadian Experience Class invitations indicates a growing emphasis on bilingual talent as Canada works to meet its long-term Francophone immigration targets.

Express Entry rounds this year have been limited to specific streams rather than broad, multi-program draws.

Provincial Nominee Program draws have been the most frequent in 2026, reflecting the federal government’s collaboration with provinces to address localized workforce shortages.
Eligible Occupations Under the New Category
The senior manager category was introduced as part of immigration policy adjustments announced in February 2026, which added several new occupational groups to category-based selection. To qualify, applicants must have at least one year of Canadian work experience within the last three years in one of the following leadership roles listed under the National Occupation Classification (NOC):
- Senior managers in construction, transportation, production, and utilities
- Senior managers in trade, broadcasting, and other service sectors
- Senior managers in health, education, social services, and community organisations
- Senior managers in financial services, communications, and other business sectors
These occupations represent executive-level roles that play a key part in managing major industries and organisations across Canada.

Why the Canadian Experience Class Matters
The Canadian Experience Class provides an Express Entry pathway for eligible skilled workers who have obtained qualifying work experience in Canada. The program can be particularly relevant to temporary foreign workers and other skilled professionals who have already gained experience in the Canadian workforce and want to transition toward permanent residence.
However, eligibility for CEC does not automatically lead to an ITA. Candidates must first enter the Express Entry pool and then rank competitively enough to be selected during an applicable invitation round.
Recent Express Entry Trends
IRCC has continued rotating between different Express Entry categories rather than concentrating all invitations within a single program.
The major selection groups featured in 2026 include:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
- French-language proficiency
- Transport Occupations
- Healthcare and social services occupations
- Physicians with Canadian work experience
- Trades occupations
- Senior Managers with Canadian work experience
- Skilled Military Recruits
The latest figures show that PNP selections have been held 17 times, followed by 15 Canadian Experience Class rounds and 10 French-language selections.
What This Means for Candidates
The September 1 invitation round is particularly significant for skilled workers who have already gained eligible Canadian work experience. Candidates interested in improving their Express Entry prospects should focus on strengthening the factors that contribute to their CRS ranking. This may include improving language test results, obtaining additional education or gaining further qualifying work experience where applicable.
Those already holding an Express Entry profile should also ensure that their information remains current and accurate. As IRCC continues conducting program-specific and category-based selections, candidates should monitor upcoming draw requirements rather than relying on the CRS threshold from a previous round.
The latest 2,000 CEC invitations provide another indication that Canadian work experience remains a major component of Canada’s Express Entry immigration strategy in 2026.
