Canada Invites 2,500 Candidates in New Express Entry Draw for CEC

Canada has held another Express Entry draw, inviting 2,500 skilled workers to apply for permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted the selection round on October 15, 2026, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 519.

The latest round highlights Canada’s continued focus on candidates who have already gained professional experience in the country. CEC draws remain an important pathway for eligible temporary residents and skilled workers looking to transition to Canadian permanent residence.

Invitations to Apply for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades Program may be issued through this round of invitations.

Total Express Entry ITAs for 2026

With this latest draw, IRCC has now issued 138,467 ITAs through Express Entry in 2026. The distribution of invitations clearly reflects the department’s priority streams.

The high volume of Canadian Experience Class invitations indicates a growing emphasis on bilingual talent as Canada works to meet its long-term Francophone immigration targets.

    Category-Based Draws Conducted in 2026

Express Entry rounds this year have been limited to specific streams rather than broad, multi-program draws.

The draws are now divided as follows:

Provincial Nominee Program draws have been the most frequent in 2026, reflecting the federal government’s collaboration with provinces to address localized workforce shortages.

Eligible Occupations Under the New Category

The senior manager category was introduced as part of immigration policy adjustments announced in February 2026, which added several new occupational groups to category-based selection. To qualify, applicants must have at least one year of Canadian work experience within the last three years in one of the following leadership roles listed under the National Occupation Classification (NOC):

These occupations represent executive-level roles that play a key part in managing major industries and organisations across Canada.

Why Canada Continues to Select Candidates with Canadian Work Experience

The Canadian Experience Class provides a route to permanent residence for skilled workers who have acquired qualifying work experience in Canada. These applicants may already be familiar with Canadian workplaces and employment practices, making the category an important part of the country’s economic immigration framework.
CEC selection rounds also allow eligible candidates to compete for permanent residence without relying solely on provincial nomination or other category-based eligibility.
However, applicants must still meet the program’s requirements, and an invitation is not guaranteed by Canadian work experience alone.

    Recent Express Entry Trends

Canada’s Express Entry activity in 2026 has covered a broad range of candidate groups. Recent rounds have included:
This pattern shows that Express Entry selections have been spread across different programs and targeted categories throughout the year.

    Conclusion

The October 15 draw offers a useful benchmark for candidates currently in the Express Entry pool. Applicants with CRS scores below 519 can review the factors contributing to their rankings and determine whether improvements are possible through language test results, additional eligible work experience, or recognised educational qualifications.
Candidates who are already working in Canada should also check their temporary status and explore whether they qualify for a work permit extension or a Bridging Open Work Permit after submitting a permanent residence application. Eligibility depends on their individual circumstances and the applicable immigration rules.

As Canada continues to conduct targeted Express Entry rounds, prospective immigrants should keep their profiles updated, monitor official draw announcements and prepare the required documentation in advance. Understanding the relevant program requirements and maintaining a competitive profile can help candidates make informed decisions about their Canadian permanent residence plans.
